TAMBOPATA RIVER, HEADWATERS OF THE AMAMAZON JUNGLE RAFTING EXPEDITION (9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS)

This is an exciting jungle expedition in the tropical rainforest in one of the most remote corners of Peru!  We raft in the Tambopata Candamo Natural Reserve on the edge of the Amazon river junglebasin, near the borders of Bolivia and Brazil.
This trip has all the ingredients of an epic and unforgettable journey.  Our expedition starts in the town of Juliaca on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world (15,480 feet altitude).  A vehicle takes us across the Altiplano, then down to the high tropical rain forest to our put-in.  There we board rafts and use the river as a highway into the magic and mysterious world of the tropical rainforest.  The jungle is habitat to many species of plants and animals: 530
species of birds (including 8 species of macaws), 13 species of monkeys, ocelot, jaguar, river jungle amazoncapybara, tapir, caiman, giant river otters, and many more.  We raft for 6 days, running class III and IV rapids.  At the end, we arrive to the world renowned Macaw Lick (see National Geographic January 1994) where we spend the night, allowing us to see these magnificent birds at dawn.  We then end our journey in Puerto Maldonado.
